In the mid-nineteenth century, eight centuries after Leif Eriksson discovered America, sixteen pioneers established the first permanent Icelandic settlement on the continent in Spanish Fork. This monument on old Route 6 celebrates that settlement. Each first Saturday in August the Iceland Association of Utah celebrates Iceland Days in Spanish Fork. (May 2000 photo)
