A postcard view of 1940s Mojave
focuses on a drug store that doubled as a bus station. Throughout its
history, Mohave has been a transportation hub. The town was established in
1876 on the first Southern Pacific Railroad line to connect Los Angeles
and San Francisco, which crossed the Tehachapi Pass just west of town.

Some signs of the old Route 6
roadside landscape remain today. A lonesome sign was the only thing left
of White's Motel in Mojave in this July 1998 photo.
